Best bet for the horse racing Thursday 1st July

Before Dawn was beaten a short head yesterday caught in the shadow of the post! She is becoming expensive to follow but I will probably give her one more chance.  Another that owes me runs on Thursday and hopefully this one will get the job done plus there's a newcomer that should be backed.

Best bet for the meeting at Haydock Park

I tipped Charlie Appleby trained Fall Of Rome on debut when second to subsequent G.2 Railway Stakes winner Go Bears Go over 5f at Ascot and mentioned him again on his second start but thankfully didn’t back him when turned over at 2-5 over 6f at Goodwood. The gelding, the snips were reached for after Goodwood (that’ll teach him), goes in the 6f EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes due off at 1.35. Surely has a win or two in him and all being well his racecourse experience can give him the edge here over a couple of interesting newcomers headed by 200,000 guineas yearling Jazz Club. I am on the selection at Evens this morning.

Modern Games makes debut for the Appleby yard in the 2.45 7f British EBF Novice Stakes and is a very nicely bred chestnut colt. By Dubawi out of Modern Ideals he’s a half-brother to a couple of winners and is fancied to be ready to go on his first visit to a track. Yard running at a 29% strike-rate with their two-year-olds and this one should be backed at 4-1. La Pulga won on debut and is the danger with the penalty to shoulder for that win.

Be lucky
