Best bet for the horse racing Thursday 19th July

I wanted to back Desert Fire at Leicester having noticed his name in the decs early this week but the Bookies seem to think he is a certainty as he is long, long odds-on! It’s an interesting bloodline as his dam Crystal House was a champion 3yo filly in Chile and in turn she was out of a champion Chilean 3yo filly in Cristalline. Keep an eye out for him when he steps up in class.

The other heat of interest to me, and I will be punting in this one, is the seven-furlong Sky Vegas Anything Could Happen Handicap at 8.00 up at Doncaster this evening. Back in 2016 Saeed bin Suroor probably thought he had a nice one on his hands in the shape of Reach High. The chestnut was runner-up on debut here in the April of that year then won novice race at Ascot in May, beating subsequent top sprinter Harry Angel before Godolphin purchased him. He came out after a 17-month absence to win a mile handicap at Kempton in October 2017 and good things must have been expected. He was then well beaten into third when odds-on over a mile at Jebel Ali on his 4yo reappearance earlier this year and has something to prove now – the snips have been reached for and he has been gelded. Runs here rather than in a race at HQ later this week and if the operation makes him concentrate (it would me) he should prove too good for the opposition here. I have the 11-4.

Be lucky
