Best bet for the horse racing Friday 16th September

Updated 16th September

I nearly missed one today, thank you ATR Tracker. One from the notebook runs in the shape of  Shin Saw Gyi in the 6f Unibet Support Safe Gambling Novice Stakes at Kempton due off at 6.15. My notes read 'Noted on debut running on late having been green at Chelmsford. Backed at Southwell on 27th Jan 22. Second again to the jolly beat 1/2 length. Good effort . Will win soon surely for Archie Watson'. She has moved to the yard of George Scott since that run at the start of the year and this is her first run since and getting in with all the allowances and a 3lb claimer onboard the filly is worth a punt at 11-2

The Dubai Duty Free meeting gets underway at Newbury on Friday as well as the Gold Cup meeting continuing up at Ayr and the two tracks are very much the main attractions for the next couple of days. I fancy one in Berkshire and have also had a bet at Kempton on the Polytrack at their twilight meeting.

Best bet for the horse racing at Newbury

I had Highbank pencilled in this week as the colt had two entries at Newbury and he will run on Friday in the mile Haynes, Hanson & Clark Conditions Stakes on the straight course at 3.28. The race has cut-up a bit and looked the easier of the two entries anyway so it is perhaps not surprising that the son of Kingman is odds-on, and unbackable annoyingly, off the back of his sole start, a win at HQ over 7f back in July with stablemate and two-time winner since Bold Act second; the form looks solid.

Sacred drops to Listed class for what could reportedly be her final outing in the 7f Listed Dubai Duty Free Cup at 4.03. She is of course a member of my Dirty Dozen this year but has failed to reach the heights hoped for having finished fifth, fifth and sixth in her three starts this campaign. She made a promising enough start when beaten just a length in the 6f G.1 Platinum Jubilee Stakes in June, but never really got involved in the 7f G.2 Lennox at Goodwood or the 7f G.2 York Stakes subsequently. She won the G.2 Hungerford Stakes here at three so hopefully that track and trip form can be recaptured. I noted in an interview Chris Richardson of Cheveley Park Stud mentioned ‘We’ve changed one or two things and I’m hoping we might see an improvement. If not then I suspect she’ll be whisked off to the paddocks.’ The ground is drying which will help and I am on, for what might be the last time, at 7-4. I tipped Shine So Bright when the grey won in May and he is feared apparently back in form but this is a step-up on anything he as done in a couple of years and the selection gets 5lb from him.

A 260,000 Guineas yearling purchase for Godolphin the team at Moulton Paddocks have taken their time with three-year-old Alnilam and he makes his debut in the Unibet Novice Stakes at 4.40 over a mile. By Sea The Stars he is the first foal out of Awareness a mare that never won but is a sister to 7f 2yo G.1 winner Pathfork, half-sister to US 1m turf/9.5f G.1 winner War Of Will out of a mile Listed winning half-sister to top miler Spinning World so on pedigree there is a lot to like. Having already been gelded he needs to recoup some of that 260,000 Guineas on the track now and is worth a punt at 100-30 to get off to a winning start.

Be lucky
