A look at the horse racing week ahead

We are very much in the crossover period now between the Turf season and the Jumps; traditionally a tricky time for betting as the form can go out the window with many of the Flat runner over the top and the Jumpers not quite up to full speed.

This week is more quantity than quality in truth with plenty of meetings but little in regards to quality competitive big races to look forward though it improves for the weekend. On Friday the Ladbrokes Festival of Racing gets underway at Down Royal over in Ireland and a number of big names are likely to be out from the yards of Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott.

The Grade Two Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby on Saturday is the race of the week, many people's idea of the Jumps season proper starting, with Cyrname set to make his long-awaited return to action. He looks likely to go at Wetherby rather than a trip to Ireland for the Champion Chase at Down Royal where Delta Work will surely go off jolly now and I would expect at very cramped odds!

I may be having a bet or two this week so please do check back and the Breeders Cup dedicated page http://www.girdysgeegees.com/breeders-cup-2020-keeneland will be updated with the big meeting at Keeneland less than a fortnight away.
