$35 million Dubai World Cup meeting cancelled

So, we have lost the 25th running of the $35 million Dubai World Cup meeting, which was scheduled to be held this Saturday, to the Virus as well now!

Saeed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board & CEO of Meydan Group LLC, said in a statement: “Due to the ongoing global health implications of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and precautionary measures being implemented by the UAE government, the organising committee regrets to announce the cancellation of the Dubai World Cup 2020 meeting at Meydan Racecourse on Saturday, March 28.”

A press release on the Dubai Racing Club website read: To safeguard the health of all participants, the higher organising committee of the Dubai World Cup has decided to postpone the 25th edition of the global event to the next year.  Further to the UAE Government’s precautionary measures against the virus, we believe it is our duty to help protect the well-being of residents and guests. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the stakeholders of the Dubai World Cup, and we hope to welcome all participants and guests next year.

I am gutted, it is one of my favourite meetings of the year, and I was sitting on a nice bet on  Ghaiyyath for the Sheema Classic but I have, of course, got the cash back and at the moment it doesn't really matter. Horse racing will return, eventually, we have more important things to deal with for now.

For now, stay safe and well and be lucky
