Horse racing Wednesday 25th September 2024
One that caught my eye earlier in the week was Magical Trail entered at Kempton Park over 6f on Wednesday and Haydock Park over 7f on Friday by Charlie Appleby. A pretty comfortable winner over 7f at Newmarket on debut in August, I tipped her, she was always in a good spot and despite still being green went clear of the opposition in the final furlong looking like a decent prospect. The daughter of Blue Point is a half-sister to the G.3 placed Romantic Rival being out of Sense Of Fun and the family has produced a fair few good ones down the years including G.1 winners Lammtarra and Aesop’s Fables. The form of her victory at HQ is working out, three of those she beat have won since, and she should have enough about her to defy a 7lb penalty here. It is perhaps a little surprising she hasn’t gone for the Haydock race, yard have another one entered there so perhaps that's why, and that she steps down in trip to be here but who am I to question Charlie Appleby.
Sadly the Bookies are taking no chances and she has opened 8-15 best! I can't back her at the price, and wouldn't want to back her if she drifts significantly, so it's no bet for me Wednesday sadly.
