Best bets for the horse racing Thursday 4th January 2018

We have four meetings to enjoy on Thursday thanks in no small part to synthetic surfaces as they race on the Polytrack at Chelmsford City, as well as the Tapeta at Newcastle and Wolverhampton; Bangor has survived the British weather where they will be racing on Heavy going, and it will be heavy! It’s the Godolphin show for me today as I fancy all three of their runners in the UK today.

First off Saeed bin Suroor, who is in red-hot form, saddles Kaser in the 32Red.com Novice Stakes up at Newcastle at 1.00. He cost the operation $500,000 as a yearling and put in a belated 2yo debut run last month showing plenty of promise when second at Wolverhampton on their Tapeta track. Improvement is very much expected and he looks a good thing at 8-13.

Later on the card, Charlie Appleby has Winds Of Fire in the 32Red.com Novice Stakes at 2.40. Tried over a mile at Wolverhampton and Chelmsford last month he steps-up to 1m4f for this. From what we have seen from those two runs looks the type that will appreciate this step-up in distance and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Tom Marquand putting it up to these some way out. At 4-5 I am on.

We have to wait a while for the third bet but hopefully, it will be worthwhile. I have had my fingers crossed all week that Native Arrow would take up his engagement in the Bet Toteplacepot At Betfred.com Novice Stakes at 6.15 over 1m2f. The unraced three-year-old by Kittens Joy was a $120,000 yearling purchase and looks the type Appleby does so well with – see First Contact earlier this week. I am happy to take a chance he is primed and ready to go on racecourse debut at 6-5.

I will, of course, be punting level stakes individually but there is a little boys in blue treble if that’s more your thing bearing in mind the prices.

Be lucky
